Mawbray Banks beach clean

10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Help turn the tide of marine pollution at this nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest in the Solway Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  The reserve is home to Natterjack Toads and Great Crested Newts but the beach is harmed by plastic debris, nylon rope, fishing line, cans and bottles.  About 85% of this rubbish can be recycled at Cumbria’s Mechanical and Biological Treatment Plant – all it needs is volunteers to put it into bags.

Mawbray Banks is a nature reserve on the Solway coast five miles south of Silloth and two miles north of Allonby beside the B5300 coast road opposite Mawbray village.

Access to the free car park, reserve and beach is via a gravel track. The reserve is noted for its sand dune grassland and maritime heath which are easy to explore on timber boardwalks.

All equipment is provided but wellies and waterproofs are advisable. All ages are welcome but young people under the age of 16 years need to be supervised by an adult.
